Crazy crazy summer of 2014..

My mom broke her leg so I have been in charge of the garden and all the jam and what not making this summer. Boy am I tired; she is nearly better but I am exhausted with no time to blog or keep up with much of anything. Still have not seen Guardians of the Galaxy....this must be fixed before the film is gone!!

But I did manage to make two batches of plum jam this year since we never made any last year and  only have one jar left from two years ago!! I have also made a double batch of meyer lemon curd with meyer lemons from our own tree which actually bore a nice batch of lemons this year as well. Much of it will be used for the Gatsby Summer afternoon picnic coming up in September where a bunch of friends and I will be dressing up in 20-40's attire and having a lovely picnic while we watch several of our group dance with the Decobelles an old style dance troupe that recreates the look of the golden age of Hollywood dance routines a la Buzby Berkeley.

I am dancing cancan up in Sacramento this weekend for the Old West days final weekend in the old Downtown portion of the city.

And we have green beans, two HUGE tomato plants, carrots, shallots, basil and potatoes all in various stages of growing and harvesting. The Lime tree is going to have a huge harvest as well it is covered in limes right now, still green they are not actually the type you find in the stores but ones that get yellow when ripe and are huge like eureka lemons.

We have some O'Henry peaches we made some ice cream with and hope to make a new batch of jam with!
All this is going on with mom having a broken leg and me doing a large portion of all the work.
Like I said I am tired..

Homemade peach ice cream using 3-4 O'Henry peaches pureed with sugar, nonfat milk and whipping cream. More instructions to come later.

More pictures of the garden soon.

Giant shallots and my dog sniffing the tomato plants!
