Losing weight and still enjoying cooking and food!

Today I got on the bathroom scale and saw I had finally broken my plateau of of 160-163 pounds and weighed in at 159.5! A very happy thing for me as the last time remember being in my 150's I was about 30 years old! 15 years and at least 10 years of them being 175 or the nearly 200 pounds I was at my wedding.

Now here I am 45 years old, no husband, no boyfriend, just me, my dog and my Mom. And I am happier and healthier than I have been in about 15 years! OK maybe not quite happier, but I am working on that part too.

And yet I still very much enjoy food and cooking and am doing more of it than I was before. The change however is how I am cooking and the quantity of the food. My portions have gotten so much smaller I think I am actually eating about 1/3 of what I used to eat and yet still feeling satisfied. No drugs, no massive amounts of exercise; although going back to Cancan dancing has definitely helped. And I stand here about 4 sizes smaller and still eating what I love.

It seems to be true that once you really lose the weight your appetite modifies itself as well.

So I still cook and bake when I want but I either share most of it with others or I make much smaller portions. I of course have changed what I eat, but only in that all the things I liked BH (Before Husband) that he would not eat are back on my menu. Lots more veggies that is for sure!

So I hope that any of you out there who worry about your weight can read this and realize that it is is not just about what you eat, but how much of it you eat. Have that mac n'cheese but make only 1/3rd the amount and throw in broccoli, onions, and mushrooms! Make a quiche but use non-fat milk and throw in spinach, onions and one of the better LOW fat cheeses. (I have still not found a non fat cheese that does not taste like crap!) Or if you want to use the regular ingredients just eat half the amount you normally would and add some fruit to your meal as well. Use less butter and oils even when you feel you need them use smaller amounts. I little bit of olive oil goes a long way if done smartly, I also like to use Smart Balance Light, it tastes close to butter but is lower in fat and has other benefits than the other spreads out there.

And then start walking either use the stairs at work more, or walk the dog more, if you have a dog, I have a dog and I adore her! And now that she is with me full time I have to give her a walk twice a day which is not just important for her but has helped me! It is kind of sad, my ex when he convinced me to get "his" dog part of the discussion was that walking her would be great for losing weight. He meant himself more than I and yet in the end he never did walk her much and now I am doing just that and getting the benefit he had wanted.

Enjoy your life and your food and find something to motivate you if you need it, to lose the weight you want without sacrificing too much of what you enjoy. This "diet" has been the most successful of my life because I did JUST that.
